About
This is the approved The
Fanlistings Network fanlisting for the relationship between Laguna Loire and
Raine (Leonhart) Loire, two characters from the Squaresoft (Square-Enix) video
game RPG Final Fantasy VIII.
What is a fanlisting?
According to TFL.org,
a fanlisting is "a web clique that lists fans of a particular subject. Unlike
most web cliques, a person does not need a web site in order to join. Fans from
around the world submit their information to their approved fanlisting and they
are then listed to show their love for the subject."
Why Laguna and Raine?
Laguna and Raine is my favorite relationship from Final Fantasy VIII. After
Laguna falls off a cliff, Raine nurses him back to health. Although the two don't
seem to be that close at first, we learn that Laguna has developed feelings for Raine,
which Kiros comments on several times. Raine, for her part, also has feelings for
Laguna, but though she wants Laguna to stay with her and Ellone, she believes Laguna
is too much of a wanderer at heart to ever stay put. As the title of the fanlisting
suggests, their love grows, unlike Laguna's crush on Julia, which seemed to be pretty
much love at first sight. At the end of the game, we learn that Laguna proposed to
Raine, and the two married. The ending is beautiful, if rather heartbreaking. The
two are obviously happy and in love, but as we learn earlier, their relationship ends
in tragedy. Ellone was kidnapped shortly after their marriage, and Laguna went to
search for her. Raine, pregnant with Laguna's child, died alone, soon after giving
birth to the baby (who would eventually become FF8's protagonist, Squall
Leonhart). Laguna never got to see Raine again, so their happiness, though genuine
and lovely, was short-lived. At the end of the game, Laguna visits Raine's grave
and remembers the night that he proposed.
Site and Layout
The fanlisting name comes from one the music pieces from Final Fantasy VIII,
"Love Grows." Though the song is actually for Laguna/Julia and Squall/Rinoa, I
think it appropriately fits Laguna/Raine also.
The current layout (version one) features an ending image of Laguna and Raine. All
images on this site come from Rainless, a Laguna/Raine shrine. The texture used in the layout
is from Aurora. The layout
was designed in Paint Shop Pro 9, was handcoded into HTML in Editpad, and is W3C XHTML
1.0 Transitional compliant. The members script is powered by
Enthusiast.
